Moderate earthquake jolts parts of Punjab, KP, GB, AJK

ISLAMABAD, March 21 : A moderate earthquake jolted the federal capital and various areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir on Monday.

The intensity of the quake was recorded at 5.7 at Richter scale, while its centre was 300 kilometres northwest of Peshawar in the mountains of Hindukush, at the depth of 192 kilometres.

The tremors were felt at 2:50pm at Islamabad, Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Sheikhupura, Muridke, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Pind Dadan Khan,Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, Peshawar, Haripur, Nowshera, Mansehra, Swat, Battagram, Kohistan, Ghizer, Chitral, Muzaffarabad, Khyber and Mohmand agencies.

No life loss was reported in the quake in any part of the country.Chief Mythologist Muhammad Riaz said these are routine earthquakes in this area. He said there was no chance of more immediate earthquakes. He also said the earthquake in Japan has no link with the Hindukush mountains earthquake.
