Imran Khan demands resignation of Punjab Chief Minister on Raymond Davis issue

LAHORE, March 18 : The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to resign as his government was responsible to ensure that the heirs of the two deceased receive justice and Raymond Davis would not have been allowed to leave the country.

Talking to a private TV channel, Imran Khan said had there been genuine leadership, due process of law would have been followed. He said it was the Punjab government which should have taken the responsibility and if there was pressure in connection with Raymond Davis release, those must have been shared with the people.

“Had army or anybody else got done this by force from me, I would have resigned,” Imran Khan remarked while replying to a question.

He said he had met the family members of the deceased and they were categorical that they want justice and not money.

The Punjab government spokesman Senator Pervez Rashid defended the handling of Raymond Davis case saying Mian Nawaz Sharif had categorically told Senator John Kerry that courts would decide the case and that the Punjab government would not talk to the heirs of the deceased for Diyat.

Pervez Rashid said after the court verdict in the case of Raymond Davis, he went in the custody of the federal government. He said the Punjab government fulfilled its responsibilities but once the court freed him, the provincial government was not in the picture. He said if the heirs had accepted Diyat under pressure, they could have told the political leaders about it.
