CHARSADDA, March 31 : Senior Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Bashir Ahmad Bilour on Thursday strongly condemned the second suicide attempt on the life of Jamait Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in which at least 12 people including police personnel were killed and over 40 sustained injuries.
During his visit at the blast site Bashir Bilour told media men that such coward attack could not harm determination of the government to halt operations in the tribal areas against the militants. He said that Maulana remained safe by the blessing of Almighty Allah in the dual suicide attacks.
"Maulana Fazl showed bravery by his decision to address a public meeting despite yesterday suicide attack in which eight people were killed because the terrorists wanted to create a gap between the masses and their true leader (politicians)," the senior minister maintained
Blaming Taliban for the dual suicide attacks to target Maulana Fazl, the minister said that limited military operations against the militants were underway in the tribal areas bordering the settled districts of KP and we could expect reaction from the militants in the areas lying nearby the tribal belt but we were ready to face reactions of the terrorists.
"Operation in Mohmand Agency, Orakzai Agency and Darra of the army against the terrorists would surely have reaction of the militants in Peshawar, Charsada, Matani and other aeras," Bilour claimed.
Bilour said that Taliban wants to destabilize Pakistan and planning to implement their rule in the country but this is not possible as our government and security agencies were efficiently fighting militancy in the tribal areas. We were determined for military action against militants and will never afraid of such coward attacks.
When asked about security lapse in the second suicide attempt on Maulana, Bilour said this was not a security lapse and added that to stop a suicide attacker is impossible.
Responding to a question regarding Maulana public meetings, Bilour said that Maulana has his own party and he is free to decide about future strategy whether to hold public meeting in the coming days or to think otherwise.
Praising Maulana Fazl, Bilour said that he did his best and showed courage to address public meeting yesterday after first attempt on his life, adding that such courage could be a death blow to the nefarious designs of the terrorists who wanted to create distance between politicians and masses.
Information Minister KP Mian Iftikhar Hussain talking to media men condemned the suicide attempts on Maulana Fazlur Rehman and asked all the political leaders to hold public meetings only in those areas where foolproof security could be provided.
He said that government will move with the strategy of quelling militancy from the country, adding that special group of Taliban was trying to target Fazl.
