Work on at another spillway at Attabad Lake

HUNZA, Jan 06 : Work on another spillway is underway at naturally formed Attabad Lake to enhance the outflow of water from the lake because the previous spillway which was dug to empty the water storage failed to meet the desired results.

According to district administration the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) was working on removing the debris and creating another spillway that would be 30 meter in depth in order to create ground for releasing additional water. They said explosives are being used for this purpose.

The officials said that due to insufficient outflow, the water level in the lake has risen by about three feet in the past three days. The new spillway will be completed by May 2011.

Meanwhile the boat service to ferry the locals was also restored after 15 days long suspension,” official sources said.
