Rana Farooq Saeed Khan questions security arrangements of Governor by Punjab Govt.

ISLAMABAD, Jan 6 : Federal Minister for Textile Industry, Rana M. Farooq Saeed Khan has said that the assassination of Punjab Governor was a great loss to the PPP and the nation was deprived of a “brave, courageous and enlightened” leader.

In a statement, the Minister said that the murder was an attempt to upset the democratic process set in since the coming in office of the PPP-led government in Feb 2008.

The Federal Minister said that the country was passing through one of the toughest phases in its history and such incidents (the murder of Punjab Governor) could further exacerbate the already complex situation.

Mr.Rana said the PPP always paid the price with blood whenever it tried to put the country on a progressive and democratic road and termed the murder a ‘cowardly act’ by forces opposed to democracy.

“The services rendered by Governor Salman Taseer will never be forgotten. The sad killing of a true PPP stalwart will not deter us in promoting and maturing the democratic process in the country”, added the minister.

The minister questioned the security arrangements made by the Punjab government and said that the security lapse raised a lot of questions like why a person declared unfit for the security of VVIPs by a police special branch report was included in the Governor’s security squad. He further said that it was the responsibility of the Punjab government to expose the ‘real elements’ behind the murder and called for a fair and just investigation into the murder.

“The PPP under the dynamic leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari will continue to serve the nation despite the repeated setbacks it had faced for decades”, said the minister.
