KARACHI, Jan 07 : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari in Bilawal House Karachi Friday morning and discussed the current political situation in the wake of assassination of Governor Salman Taseer, ultimatum by the PML-N and ongoing dialogue with the MQM.
Spokesperson to President Farhatullah Babar said that current political situation was discussed during the meeting that lasted for ninety minutes.
The President appreciated the efforts of the government and the Prime Minister in taking all stake holders and political parties on board in addressing the prevailing situation. The President advised the Prime Minister to continue efforts aimed at seeking consensus of all political forces in addressing the urgent issues of the day.
Though no details were given about the subjects discussed, yet sources said different names were discussed by the two top leaders of the Government for appointment of Punjab Governor.
The President welcomed the decision taken by the Prime Minister to reverse the increase in POL prices after consulting the parliamentary leaders of different parties. He hoped that the Prime Minister would continue his policy for taking along all the parliamentary groups on key issues.
President's forthcoming visit to the United States also came up under discussion.
Interior Minister, Rehman Malik was also present during the meeting.
