LAHORE : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani held a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif on Monday and discussed with him the current political turmoil in the backdrop of MQM’s pullout of government.
Gilani has planned meeting with opposition leaders today in a bid to head off a possible vote of no confidence after the key partner quit the governing coalition.
The PM discussed the political situation with Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and ways to resolve this crisis.
On the request of Gilani, Shahbaz held out his assurance to the PM that his faction would not be a part of any political ‘adventurism’ to collapse the government.
He, however, stressed upon the PM to take concrete measures to root out corruption from the state institutions.
The PM reportedly assured the PML-N leader that steps would be taken soon and all such issues would be resolved with consensus.
Before his meeting with the premier, Shahbaz called on his elder brother and PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif this morning, who in his message to the PM urged government to curb raging inflation and corruption in the country.
Nawaz also assured the government of his support to the fragile government for the sake of democratic process, saying “we want PPP government stable”.
