LAHORE Jan 5 : Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Proivncial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah did not attend the funeral prayers of Governor Salman Taseer as they were advised to stay away to avoid any strong reaction from PPP workers who were enraged over the assassination of their leader on grounds of poor security.
The funeral prayers were attended by a large number of leaders of various political parties. However no prominent leader from the PML-N attended. Only two Provincial Ministers Malik Nadeem Kamran and Ahsanuddin Qureshi represented the Chief Minister and PML-N.
Sources said that senior Punjab Minister Raja Riaz and PPP leaders had advised the Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders not to attend the funeral prayers in order to avoid any untoward incident.
On the other hand, Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah says that a PML-N delegation under his leadership was to attend the funeral but the Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz stopped them from attending.
