LAHORE: A blast ripped through a procession taken out in connection with the Chehlum of Hazrat Hussain at Bhati Gate area of the city, killing seven and injuring more than 30 people.
Police said a suicide bomber blew himself up when he was stopped for checking at a checkpoint made on the route of procession at Bhati Gate.
Some seven people, among them two policemen, were killed and more than 30 injured in the explosion, officials said.
Spokesman Rescue 1122 said the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, with ambulances rushed to the spot.
The government has claimed to have taken extraordinary security measures to protect the mourning processions but the sad incidents exposed lap in the security.
