ISLAMABAD, Dec 13 : The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday directed authorities to arrest the accused in connection with death of five persons in a car race in Rawalpindi.
The accused also include Ali Riaz, the son of prominent businessman and Bahria Town chairman Malik Riaz.
Reports said his father Malik Riaz helped him flee from the country in the wake of his arrest in the case.
Hearing a suo moto notice of the incident today, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said the deaths are not apparently an incident of negligence, but an intentional and planned action.
The Supreme Court has summoned Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) and Rawalpindi DC/Commissioner today in connection with the deaths and issued orders for the arrestment of all accused.
They were asked what action they have taken in the case so far. The CJP had taken suo motu notice into the tragic incident after a video on a private television channel showing a car racer losing control over his vehicle and hitting spectators on December 9. The driver had run away from the spot.
Asfand Yar, an 11-year-old child, and his father were also among the killed.
