PPP team to meet Fazlur Rehman today

ISLAMABAD: The government has stepped up efforts to bring back estranged ally Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in the ruling coalition fold.

A delegation of ruling People's Party, comprises of central party leaders, will hold meeting with JUI (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman today, sources said.

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam parted its way with the coalition government after Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani sacked Minister for Religious Affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi and JUI-F minister Azam Swati from the cabinet.

Qayyum Soomro, an aide of President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad and asked him to reconsider the decision to quit the government.

People's Party sources said the JUI and PPP have close political ties for long time expecting to win back JUI support for the government.
