PM asks UAE's Maaza Group to invest in agro, dairy industry

ISLAMABAD, Dec 24 : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said Pakistan is blessed with immense natural resources and the government has tailored its economic policies to create congenial environment for investors. He further said Pakistan has already liberalized its economy,consequently, the private sector has assumed the role of frontline player in the economic field.

Prime Minister Gilani, while talking to a business delegation of the United Arab Emirates, Maaza International Group of Companies at his Chamber in the Parliament House Friday afternoon said that Pakistan's thriving agriculture sector offers attractive investment opportunities.

He pointed out that agro and dairy industry is making two to three hundred percent profits in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister assured complete support and cooperation to the chairman of the Maaza International Group of Companies, Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Omran Al-Omran and welcomed the Group to make investment in the agro and dairy industry of Pakistan.

He elaborated that Pakistan produces high quality mangoes, apple, citrus, dates, guava, apricots and other fruits in abundance. He regretted that a large quantity of these goes waste due to the lack of cold storage facilities and processing plants.

Premier Gilani asked the Group to set up canning and food processing industry in Pakistan and assured his Government's full cooperation in this regard.

The Chairman of Maaza International apprised the Prime Minister that his Group is interested to import mango pulp from Pakistan. He said that his company is also studying the possibility for the establishment of a dairy farm in Sindh as well.

He further said that his Group of companies would prefer to import maximum inputs from Pakistan to meet the requirement of his 30 food processing units in the Gulf.

At the end of the meeting, the Federal Minister presented two cheques with a denomination of Rs. 25,00,000 on behalf of the Rice Corporation of Pakistan and Rs.14,93,00 on behalf of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in the Prime Minister's fund for flood affectees.

The meeting was also attended by the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Nazar Muhammad Godal, Minister of State, Mir Ayatullah Durrani, Mr. Eltigani Ibrahim Hammad Bilal, Mr. Saleem Akhter, Malik Ghulam Abbas, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, secretary Agriculture, Mr.Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry and other senior officials.
