Pakistan to push common cause of climate change at Mexico: Afridi

ISLAMABAD, Dec 6 : Environment Minister Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi Monday said he wished to thank the President of Mexico Felipe Condarun for highlighting Pakistan's special vulnerabilities towards climate change.

"The world must recognize that this time it was Pakistan who knows where climate change induced events like droughts, sea rise, glacier melt and outfall like floods will strike next?" said the minister after arriving at Cancun, Mexico to attend COP 16 meetings on Climate Change.

Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said that the world must come together and act now, our common response is our shared destiny. We sink or swim together. Developed countries must realize that they have to come forward and payback to the World for past neglect of the environment.

The Minister Environment along with important parliamentarians and experts from Pakistan are negotiating hard to arrive at outcomes that address the adaptation and mitigation concerns. Pakistan has been taking these negotiations much more seriously since it experienced devastating floods this year and will ensure that the necessary policy framework is in place to
engage in a befitting response to address climate change, added.INP
