Pak to ‘strongly contest’ suit against ISI: FO

ISLAMABAD, Dec 30 : Pakistan Thursday decided to “strongly contest” the suit filed against the Inter-Services-Intelligence (ISI) in a New York Court.

According to Foreign Office Spokesman, the government and the Pakistan Embassy in Washington will be defending the legal suit on behalf of ISI and its directors general “fully and properly”.

The decision came days after Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani told the National Assembly that ISI chief would not appear before the US court.

“We do not believe the ISI, as an agency of the Government of Pakistan, or its present and former officials could be subjected to civil litigation in the courts of the United States and we intend to take appropriate steps to obtain dismissal of this action,” the PM said while addressing the house.

A US court had summoned present and the former DGs of ISI in a case which accused them of their alleged involvement in Mumbai attacks.

The case filed by two Indian-American victims of the attacks also accused Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi and Jamaat ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed as alleged masterminds of the attacks.
