SRINAGAR, Dec 03 : The authorities in the occupied Kashmir placed the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior Hurriyet leaders, Syed Ali Gilani and Shabbir Ahmed Shah, under house arrest, today, to prevent them from addressing Juma congregations and leading pro-liberation demonstrations.
The APHC Chairman in a statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the action describing it as the worst form of human rights violation.
He urged India to give up intransigence on Kashmir and take steps to resolve the dispute, once and for all. Senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi addressing a public gathering in Budgam demanded impartial probe into the recent killing of three innocent Kashmiri youth in a shoot out by Indian troops in Qamarwari area of Srinagar.
On the other hand, a big anti-India demonstration was held at Wichi in Shopian and similar protests were staged in Humhama, Saraibal, Rainawari and Nowhatta areas. Complete strike continued in Shopian and Bandipore against the atrocities and detention of youth by Indian police and troops. Four persons were injured when unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate firing in Bijbehara town on Srinagar-Jammu highway, today.
Meanwhile, a report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons, today, revealed that as many as 57 innocent Kashmiris had been rendered permanently disabled during the last six months due to the use of brute force against peaceful protesters by Indian police and troops. The report maintained that
the number of wounded persons during the current uprising was more than four thousand.
In London, speakers at a conference organised by the Kashmir Centre expressed serious concern over the continued gross human rights violations by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. They included Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, Lord Nazir Ahmed, Qurban Hussian, Andrew Griffith and Victoria Scofield.
