ISLAMABAD, Dec 02: Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit has said that revelations made by the Wikileaks would hamper the US diplomacy as the US itself is worried about the leakage of secret documents.
Speaking in a state-run TV programme on Thursday, Abdul Basit said only the officials of the US embassies can confirm or rejects these leakages as most of these releases are concerned with the meetings held in the US embassies.
Replying a question, he said it is a routine practice of the embassies to keep their concerned headquarters abreast with the latest situation through dispatches.
To a query, Foreign Office Spokesman said the documents of the Pakistani foreign missions abroad are safe, there are no possible of any access to these documents, he clarified.
He said the WikiLeaks succeeded in releasing these details due to the US failure in keeping them secret.
Abdul Basit said after these releases, the entire world leaders have to keep strict vigil on maintaining their talks secret and to change style of their mutual discussions.
Replying another question, he said there is no need to confirm or reject the WikiLeaks releases, and added, "we should not worry about these things, we should leave them as they are now, and move forward while further strengthening internal mechanism and procedure".
Speaking in the programme, prominent analyst and expert of the international relations, Hassan Askari said the disclosures made by the WikiLeaks cannot be termed as the US foreign policy. He said the affects of these releases would not be lasting and far-reaching. He added the United States suffered most due to revelations by the WikiLeaks.
Answering a question, Hassan Askari said such kinds of revelations cannot affect the relations between the countries. He also questioned about the authenticity of these releases saying, "it is not essential that revelations made by WikiLeaks are correct and one hundred percent credible".
To another question, he said the WikiLeaks cables release reflects the US diplomats keeping a close eye on every development and affairs take place in Pakistan. He said the releases mostly focused Pakistan and Afghanistan as the US is mostly interested in war on terror.
To yet another query, Hassan Askari said WikiLeaks did not make substantial revelations regarding India and Indo-US nuclear deal.
He said the main weakness of Pakistan is its internal financial and economic slump. He said Pakistani politicians keep on struggling against each other and do not pay any heed to streamline the country's affairs.
Taking part in the programme, former Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub said the disclosures made by Wikileaks are evident that secrecy of the US embassies is not foolproof. He disclosed whenever the diplomats meet the President, the Prime Minister or the Army Chief, they keep secret bugging devices and later send this discussion to their respective countries.
He advised the rulers to remain vigilant in this connection and do not make any talk which may embarrass them. Gohar Ayub said the incumbent rules are subservient and stooges of the US
Ambassador to Pakistan and US Special Envoy to Pakistan and AfghanistanRichard Holbrooke.
Responding to a question about disclosure regarding Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the former Foreign Minister said, "Although Maulana Sahib has denied any such thing, however, what was the urgency and logic that he invited the US envoy to feast".
