World Bank report declares Pakistan an easy destination for doing business > in S. Asia

WASHINGTON Nov 5 : The World Bank Thursday released Report on "Doing Business 2011 - Making a Difference for Entrepreneurs -" placing Pakistan at 69 position out of 183 countries, ahead of other South Asian nations.

The report focuses on 6 stages of the life of a small to medium-size domestic enterprise: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, registering property, paying taxes, enforcing contracts, and trading across borders.

The first Sub National Doing Business report on Pakistan, found that provincial and municipal level reforms of business regulation in Pakistan complement nationwide reforms. Consistent reformers out performed others, but no single city did well on all the indicators measured. Each of the 13 cities benchmarked in the report could learn from each other's best
practices.

According to the findings of the Report if a city in Pakistan adopted all existing best practices in the 6 areas covered by the report, it is Faisalabad where doing business is the easiest.

Meanwhile, Islamabad and Peshawar were first and second, respectively, on starting a business, while Sukkur stood first in terms of enforcing contracts. India is 134 in a ranking relating to the ease of doing business,
while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal are ranked 102, 107 and 116, respectively. China is ranked 79.
