SC hears Adiala missing persons case

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan has said the authorities should observe sanity and recover the people missing from Adiala Jail after their acquittal by a court.

During hearing of the case by a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry on Wednesday, the Chief Justice said the court will go to any extent in the case. " Who will be responsible if people go missing in this manner," he asked.

Attorney General Moulvi Anwarul Haq informed the court that the missing persons have not been in custody of any intelligence agency of the state.

The Chief Secretary of Punjab submitted his report with the government about the people disappeared from Adiala jail.

"There is contradiction in your statement and the report filed by the Chief Secretary of Punjab," the court told the Attorney General.

The court ordered the Attorney General and the Chief Secretary to discuss the matter and provide information about the whereabouts of the missing persons, and the proceedings were deferred till 1:00 pm.
