MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 30 : A large scale corruption has been unearthed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) food department swhere reportedly officials have fetched millions of rupees through smuggling of subsidized wheat flour to Afghanistan.
According to sources, four officers of the department have been allegedly found involved in the smuggling of subsidised wheat flour to Afghanistan.
It should be mentioned that federal government annually provide Rs 1.92 billion subsidy to AJK on account of wheat flour.
Former Director Food AJK was also suspended over the same charges; however, political influence restored him to his office after a few months. The official is allegedly heading the network of smuggling causing shortage of wheat flour in the state.
Sources said the Director Food AJK has appointed his 30 relatives in the food department, who were assisting his alleged illegal business.
Sources said the accountability bureau on reports of corruption was investigating the matter and arrests were possible in a few days.
