| Karachi: CAA to probe cargo plane crash News in Urdu KARACHI: A Civil Aviation Authority team will carry out an investigation into the cargo plane crash in Karachi which killed at least eleven people late on Saturday. The Russian-made cargo plane crashed in a fireball in Dalmia area of Karachi seconds after taking off from the city, a CAA spokesman said. Rescue workers recovered 12 bodies from the crash site, including three identified as local labourers, and the death toll was expected to rise. The CAA has constituted a team to investigate the incident, which would be headed by Air Commodore Khawaja Abdul Majeed. Air Commodore on Sunday visited the site and said both the engines of the plane were closed at when it crashed, adding that it blasted in the air. Blackbox of the plane has not yet been found by the investigators. The crash was the second this month in Karachi and the third in Pakistan in less than five months. The plane slammed into a housing complex under construction, sending fire and smoke into the sky and damaging about 20 buildings in the area where the Pakistan Air Force and Navy have residential apartments and offices close to Jinnah International airport. Authorities recovered three bodies from the smoking rubble by Sunday afternoon and one laborer was still missing, said navy Commodore Mohammad Musra. Another person on the ground was hospitalized with severe burns, said local doctor Abdul Razak. Earlier this month in Karachi, a small passenger plane crashed soon after takeoff, killing 21 people. In July, a passenger jet operated by Pakistani carrier Airblue crashed into hills overlooking the capital, Islamabad, during stormy weather, killing all 152 on board. |
