Gilani, Arundhati booked under sedition charges

NEW DEHLI, Nov 30 : Delhi Police have booked veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, Booker Prize winner and noted Indian social activist, Arundhati Roy, and others on charges of sedition for their speech at a seminar on Kashmir here, last month. The filing of the FIR came following a directive from a local court on Saturday on a petition filed by a person associated with Bhartiya Janata Party, Sushil Pandit, on October 28 at Tilak Marg police station. Syed Ali Gilani and Arundhati Roy had shared the dais with Maoist sympathiser Vara Vara, Delhi University Professor, Syed Abdul Rehman Gilani, Jammu and Kashmir University Professor, Sheikh Showkat Hussain, Shuddharbrata Sengupta, Sujato Bhadra and others during the seminar 'Azadi-the only way" on October 21.It is to mention here that the maximum punishment, if convicted, is life> imprisonment for the offence.
