LONDON: Body of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s assassinated leader Dr Imran Farooq has been handed over to heirs in presence of his parents.
Farooq, 50, was killed in broad daylight by an Asian attacker who stabbed and beat him to death on September 17 outside his home in Edgware, north London. Imran Farooq was a co-founder of the MQM.
After 44 days after his assassination, Scotland Yard, the London metropolitan police investigating into the murder, handed over deadbody of the MQM’s slain leader to his parents on Monday.
Funeral prayers of MQM’s former covenor would be offered on Thursday in London, and later the deadbody would be flown to Pakistan on Friday, party spokesman said in a statement today.
Metropolitan Police have expanded circle of their investigation and obtained information from local citizens residing near Imran’s residence. However, the police have not arrested any suspect so far.
The Scotland Yard is also investigating Farooq’s rows within his own party. Farooq was a senior figure in MQM, and was in exile in London at the time of his death.
