Zardari asks business leaders to donate with open heart for flood affectees

ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (INP): President Asif Ali Zardari has called upon the business and industrial community to supplement efforts of the government with open heart to provide relief to the flood affected people and their speedy rehabilitation.

He was addressing business and industrial community leaders here on Friday.

The President said the world has never seen such a catastrophe and we all have to make joint efforts for rescue and relief as well as rehabilitation of the flood affected people and reconstruction of the affected areas.

The President said Pakistanis are courageous nation and have the resilience to build again what has been destroyed in these unprecedented floods.

Asif Ali Zardari said it will be a long struggle to rehabilitate people and reconstruct affected areas but we will make sustained efforts to overcome the challenge.

He said we want active participation of all segments of the society including industrialists and businessmen in this gigantic task with a sense of ownership. It is time to sit together and devise a comprehensive strategy to tackle the challenge and also making a plan to minimize losses in case of such disasters in future.

The President expressed the confidence that the Pakistani nation will turn this challenge into opportunity. He said although there is lack of resources but we are confident that with our joint efforts and support of the international community we will be successful in overcoming this
challenge.

He pointed out that only yesterday the Asian Development Bank offered to provide two billion dollars and expressed readiness to participate in the task of rebuilding.

He said the world is willing to extend help and we also have the resolve to meet the challenge but there is need to give a message of hope to the affected people. He said this is necessary because some people lost everything they had.

The leaders of the business community briefed the President about their contribution in relief activities.
