Met office forecasts cyclone near Karachi

KARACHI: The Metrological office on Tuesday forecasted rainstorm in next couple of days in the coastal areas of the country due to a tropical cyclone generating in Arabian Sea.

The sea storm is gaining intensity some 1100 kilometers away from coastal areas of Karachi, chief meteorologist Muhammad Riaz said.

The weather expert said Thatta and Badin districts are likely to receive heavy rains on Friday and Saturday. While, Karachi and few areas of coastal belt of Balochistan may also receive thunderstorm during the said days.

He said warnings had been issued to the fishermen for evacuating coastal areas in the wake of possible cyclone, adding that Kemari, Korangi and Landhi Town of the city may receive shower in next 24 to 72 hours.

In the wake of possible downpour, the city administration has canceled holidays of municipal staff.
