ISLAMABAD, Feb 12: A crucial meeting between Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was held here at the PM House on Friday.
The meeting – the first highest-level interaction between the two parties in three months, held after a reception hosted by Prime Minister Gilani in PM House in the honour of visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Issues relating to implementation on Charter of Democracy and Supreme Court’s verdict against annulled National Reconciliation Ordinance topped the agenda, sources said.
Repeal of 17th Amendment, matters relating to PML(N)-led Punjab government, appointment of judges, working relations between the two parties and country’s overall political situation was discussed in the meeting.
During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif expressed his severe reservation on appointment of judges in the apex court and delay in implementation of the recommendations of the Constitutional Reforms Committee.
He said that the confrontation between judiciary and government was triggering a new political tension, which could be harmful.
Nawaz Sharif urged the Prime Minister to fulfill his commitment regarding the recommendations and table them in the parliament at the earliest.
The former premier further said that the government should utilities its resources to check the worst price hike, gas and power crisis, and other issues.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister Gilani assured the PML-N chief for implementation of Charter of Democracy and repeal of 17th Amendment soon.
