Upsurge in import of Pakistani workers by Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26: In the first month of 2010 Malaysian Companies have ordered import of six hundred (600) semi skilled and un-skilled workers from Pakistan. This demand is likely to increase in the coming months.

According to Community Welfare Attaché for Pakistan High Commission, Ch. Nadeem Ashraf, negotiations are underway with a number of Malaysian companies for recruitment of un-skilled and semi skilled Pakistani workers.

Pakistani Community Attaché termed it positive and encouraging development. Last year, twenty five hundred (2500) Pakistani workers were imported by Malaysia despite recession.

Pakistan High Commission hoped that additional Pakistani work force will be imported by Malaysian companies specially in Construction and Manufacturing Sectors to provide them an opportunity to contribute in the development and prosperity of a brotherly country.

On its part, Pakistan High Commission is doing utmost efforts to increase intake of Pakistani work force to Malaysia through secured channels. Mission’s Community Welfare Wing is in direct contact with the recruiting companies and the employers to ensure compliance of recruitment agreements and provision of conducive work environment. Besides, the frequent visits of the Mission Staff to the construction and manufacturing sites and interactions with the employers and Pakistani workforce has helped in creating smooth and productive employer- employee relationships.

The import of Pakistani workers is in line with the MoU signed between the two countries in October 20th 2003 wherein it was agreed to create a framework to facilitate the recruitment of Pakistani workers for Malaysia.
