Three killed, dozens injured in traffic accidents in Punjab due to fog

LAHORE, Jan 23: Three persons were killed and scores of others injured in a separate of road mishaps resulting from poor visibility caused by thick fog in different cities of Punjab on Saturday.

In one incident occurred at GT Road near Bhai Phero Bypass, four vehicles rammed into each other resulting in the death of two persons and leaving dozens others injured. The traffic remained jammed for hours due to the accident and was later cleared for traffic after removing wreckage of collided vehicles from the road.

In another mishap a poultry laden truck rammed into two cars resulting in the death of truck driver and injuries to the passengers in the cards.

Meanwhile 17 people sustained injuries in fog related road mishaps in Sargodha. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals where according to hospitals sources several among the injured were in critical conditions.

Dense fog across the province has also adversely disturbed the trains and air traffic schedule.

The cities of Lahore, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Jehlum, Mandi Bhauddin, Multan, Bhakkar and Dera Ghazi Khan remained in the grip of dense fog from Friday evening till Saturday noon.

The flights from Abu Dhabi and Qattar were also delayed due to fog whereas according to Pakistan Railway sources Fareed Express was delayed for seven hours and Kyber Mail was delayed for three hours.

Motorway was also closed for traffic due to zero visibility in Kala Shah Kakoo, Sheikhpura, Pindi Bhattian and Faisalabad. Whereas traffic at Lahore-Kharian Road was observed moving with minimum speed due to poor visibility.

According to meteorological department 50 metre visibility was recorded in Lahore and in Sialkot in was recorded 20 metres.

The met office has forecasted cold and dry weather during next 24 hours.INP
