Pak exports to Malaysia show 31% increase

ISLAMABAD, Jan 06 : Pakistan ’s exports to Malaysia have registered 31% increase during July-June 2008-09 with export of goods valued at $ 124.38 million compared to import of $ 94.39 Million in the corresponding period last year.

According to data released by the Board of Investment of Pakistan and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Malaysia has emerged 25th largest importer from Pakistan out of forty top importing countries and first in the South East Asian region.

Thailand with import of US$ 89.4 million occupied 33rd position whereas USA with import of US$ 3.34 billion and UAE with US$ 1.47 billion occupied the first and second position.

According to data released by Matrade, Malaysian export to Pakistan registered an increase of 27% in 2008 with an export of US$ 1.74 billion compared to US$ 1.26 billion in 2007.

Signing of Malaysia-Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA) has provided much needed enabling environment which has resulted in continuous upward trend in the bilateral trade.

Pakistan High Commissioner in Malaysia said that keeping in view the enormous scope of bilateral trade between the two countries, there is need to fully exploit the concessions and reduction in duties and taxes provided vide MPCEPA to bring about multifold increase in the existing level of trade.

The High Commissioner said that business persons, traders and investors of Pakistan and Malaysia should attend the trade exhibitions / business fairs of each others country to get to know the exiting business opportunities.

He urged the Malaysian companies, entrepreneurs, traders and investors to attend Expo Pakistan being held in Karachi, Pakistan from 26th to 28th Feb, 2010 the largest international trade Exhibition of Pakistan generating business worth of million of dollars in the region.

He added that this mega event is aimed at providing unprecedented opportunities to its participants to witness a wide range of quality products from the leading local and international manufacturers and exporters. The event act as a one stop sourcing platform for new business alliances and investment through ideal networking and one to one business meetings programs, he added.

The High Commissioner said that the fifth edition of largest exposition of Pakistan, which has become an emerging brand in the calendar of international trade events of the region and across the world, will be attended by leading international buyers of Pakistani product and services, chain stores, importers, exporters, trade associations, foreign investors, trade representatives, members of various chambers of commence and professional bodies including senior executives of multinational companies and financial institutions and media representatives

Mr. Qazi said that the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), looks forward to welcome Malaysian businesspersons to see first hand what Pakistan has to offer and also learn about its people, customs, culture, arts and crafts that have a 5,000 year old history, tradition and richness of heritage.
