SRINAGAR, Jan 30 : Most areas of Indian Held Kashmir on Friday were covered with heavy snow, which continued all over the valley, blocking normal traffic on the 300-kilometer long Jammu-Srinagar highway which is the Kashmir valley's only land connection with the rest of the world. Hundreds of vehicles and hundreds of passengers are stranded due to accumulation of the snow.

“It has been intermittently snowing since last evening in most parts of Ramban district. Around one feet of snow had accumulated on both sides of Jawahar tunnel. Highway was closed due to the inclement weather conditions,” said, a Traffic Police official.

He said that around 850 persons, including truck drivers and passengers, were stranded at various places between Udhampur and Banihal. “Around 250 light motor vehicles, 3 buses and 700 trucks are stranded on the highway,” he added.

Traffic department announced that no vehicular movement would be allowed on the highway on Saturday. “No vehicle will be allowed from Qazigund on Kashmir side and from Udhampur on Jammu side,” traffic officials said.
