Govt providing Rs. 55 billion subsidy to consumers in power sector: Pervez Ashraf

ISLAMABAD, Jan 19 : Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that government is still providing 55 billion subsidy to consumers in energy sector.

Answering on different Call Attention Notices raised by MNAs Sheikh Royal, Nisar Tanveer, Hanif Habbasi, Arshad Khan and Tahira Oranzab in the house, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that NEPRA was an independent authority which had authorized for increasing price of power but government takes efforts for not increasing the power prices.

He said that industries and factories were facing troubles and heavy loses due to increasing of power and load shading and some industries and factories had been completely closed, adding people also could not used the electricity due to increase of price.

The country was facing crisis of electricity but it should success to overcome it soon, adding government would providing power to the people after purchasing from private companies.

Government had launched many mega projects in this regard including hydro power project which would be completed till next five to seven years and electricity would be provided in very cheap price to people through this project, the minister said.

Raja Pervez Ashraf said that works on Bhasha Dam and Kohala hydro power projects were underway and 4500 and 1100 megawatt would be provided through these projects.

He said that government would preview the prices of energy after completion of hydro power project.INP
