Gates admits Blackwater presence in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates on Thursday admitted the presence of Blackwater and DynCorp – two defamed United States-based private military contractors, on Pakistani soil, saying the two companies are operating in the country in their own private capacity.

In an interview to a TV channel, Gates who arrived here on an official visit said that United States has no intentions of occupying the nuclear assets and installations of Pakistan.

He praised the role and sacrifices rendered by Pakistan’s military and the nation in the war against militancy and congratulated the Pakistan Army on conducting successful military operations in bordering areas with Afghanistan.

He said that his country wants better ties with Pakistan and is mulling over providing much-demanded drone technology to the country.
